Open Positions

3 PhD student positions in organic chemistry, at School of Chemistry, Trinity College Dublin, with Chair of Organic Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Mathias Senge.

As part of the Science Foundation Ireland funded projects a) DyeSICPhoto and b) PORPHYSHAPE we are looking for motivated candidates (f/m/d, EEA, CH, UK citizens) with a B.S. or M.Sc. degree in chemistry or related subjects with strong interest in synthetic chemistry of functional organic materials. Projects are aimed at a) a conceptually new type of functional dyes with programmable excited state behavior to unlock their practical potential in photonics, b) using molecular engineering and conformational design of macrocycles as receptors and organocatalysts. These are interdisciplinary projects bringing together researchers from synthetic organic chemistry, functional materials, photochemistry, interface physics, medicinal and bioinorganic chemistry. Researchers will work in an international team with secondments to collaborators at a) TU Dublin and b) TU Munich. Participation in STEM outreach and collaborative research projects and grant initiatives is expected.

Requirements: Recent B.A./B.Sc. or M.Sci. in chemistry; strong competence in synthetic organic chemistry, good English language skills and commitment to work in highly diverse and multicultural research groups. Applications from underrepresented groups and women are strongly encouraged. For application details see below.
